Cup Noodles has revealed<\/a> a curious new controller reminiscent of Nintendo’s Famicom era – but with a dedicated “shrimp” button.<\/p>\n

Featured above, the not-available-to-purchase controller sports the shape of the Super Famicom pad but a button layout sporting a shrimp in place of the A and B buttons. This is a clear pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the letters “A” and “B” which sounds like “ebi”, the Japanese word for shrimp.<\/p>\n

To confuse things further – the mock up controller only has two buttons like the Famicom pad but has the design of its successor the Super Famicom, which had four face buttons from A, B, X, and Y.<\/p>\n

Cup Noodles, a brand from Nissin, is posting these jokes on their social media to help promote their ongoing “Cup Noodle Quest 2” campaign where consumers can redeem points for various Cup Noodle-branded goods. The campaign is running through January 2025.<\/p>\n
